"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

Drive-Thru Toy & Food Giveaway
Drive-Thru Toy & Food Giveaway – Flaming Fire Miracle Center
Two months ago one of the many great expressions of God’s love towards the forgotten, in answer to prayer, opened its doors on the corner of 98th and Vermont. Formerly serving out of a nearby neighborhood residence, this outreach ministry made good use of their new church building by serving the people – literally outside their walls with walk-up and drive-up sharing stationed on the well-traveled Vermont side of their building. Toys were given to children, gifts were placed into every hand, and food was handed out. More importantly, people were heard, embraced, prayed for and brought into the joy of a family of God sharing the way their Lord taught them to do – in love that serves outdoors.
Pray for this ministry. Visit this ministry. Love like this ministry loves: in Spirit and in Truth. Amen.

L.A. County Faith-Based Regional Round-Up, 2025
The 2025 Annual Year-End Round-Up – Faith-Based Regional Coordinators Unite
Faith-Based Regional Coordinators (FBRCs) from across Los Angeles County gathered for the 2025 Annual Year-End Round-Up, celebrating a year of collaboration, shared learning, and collective impact. Coordinated through the Los Angeles County Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnership (OFBNP), FBRCs serve as vital connectors between faith communities, service providers, and County systems—working to reduce silos and strengthen partnerships, particularly in efforts to address homelessness.
Supported by Measure H and Measure A funding, FBRCs tailor regional strategies that reflect the unique needs of their Service Planning Areas (SPAs), from the Antelope Valley to South Los Angeles and the South Bay. Their work is further strengthened through initiatives led by the Faith Collaborative to End Homelessness (FCEH) and aligned County partners, ensuring faith institutions remain active, informed, and empowered contributors to community care.
This year-end gathering offered space for reflection, relationship-building, and recommitment to the shared mission of compassion, equity, and coordinated service throughout Los Angeles County.

Tour of “The Greatest Mission” — Serving Victims of Human Trafficking in Compton
(Featured live during the final Monthly Domestic Violence Care Coordination Meeting of 2025)
In a last-minute decision prompted by a clear sense of divine calling, an originally scheduled presenter chose instead to join the Monthly Online Domestic Violence Care Coordination Meeting live and onsite at Restoration Diversion Services (RDS). Hosted by Margot Schweichler, Domestic Violence Regional Coordinator for SPA 6 (HOPICS), the session became a powerful and unexpected opportunity to witness transformative work unfolding along the often-overlooked Compton Corridor of Human Trafficking.
Participants were introduced to the missionary leadership of Program Manager Deatra Handy and her newly appointed co-laborer, Barbara Harper, and were guided through a live tour of a growing outreach serving up to 2,000 victims of human trafficking in the area. This corridor represents the lesser-known counterpart to the more widely recognized South Figueroa Corridor, where trafficking occurs daily—and nightly—here in the heart of Los Angeles County.
Operating discreetly from what appears as a simple storefront, this ministry is changing lives through unwavering compassion, holistic support, and faith-centered care. Children—predominantly girls between the ages of 12 and 20—are being restored, empowered, and set free through love offered in the name of Jesus.
This unexpected collaboration stood as yet another testament to God’s hand at work—moving deliberately to free the forgotten. We implore you to lift up your prayers, your heart, and your actions on behalf of these dear children, who (coerced, kidnapped and cut off from their families) are so often unseen and unheard.

Christmas Block Party in Watts
3rd Annual Christmas Block Party – Hope Central Watts
As Christmas drew near, Hope Central Watts joyfully reflected on the incredible success of its 3rd Annual Christmas Block Party, a celebration marked by love, generosity, and the true meaning of the season. While the ministry has hosted Christmas dinners in Watts for more than a decade, this year marked the third consecutive celebration held on the church’s own property—transforming the space into a vibrant hub of fellowship and hope.
The day was filled with the sharing of the Gospel, warm meals for families, toys for children, and an outpouring of love for every neighbor who attended. New families were welcomed into the Hope Central Watts community, and meaningful connections were formed that will extend far beyond the holiday season.
Deep gratitude was expressed for every co-laborer in Christ—those who donated throughout the year, friends who contributed toys, faithful prayer partners, and volunteers who generously gave their time and hearts. Each played a vital role in making the celebration a reflection of God’s love in action.
With thankful hearts, Hope Central Watts was so very blessed to extend warm Christmas blessings to the entire community.

SEE YOU AT THE NEXT CONVENTION
November 5–8, 2025 • CCDA National Conference • Grand Rapids, MI
Our time in Grand Rapids was more than a conference — it was a Spirit-filled immersion into real solutions for the urgent crises facing our inner cities today. Through the Go & See immersions at The Other Way Ministries and New City Neighbors, we witnessed firsthand how local churches and Christian nonprofits are confronting food insecurity with creativity, dignity, and community-driven sustainability. Their work — from food co-ops and at-cost markets to urban farms, community gardens, and neighborhood networks — offered living models of how we can respond to the sudden SNAP food crisis now affecting families across South Los Angeles and Compton.
Equally transformative were the justice-focused workshops, where leaders from across the nation shared strategies for nonviolent community defense, immigration raid response, and practical congregational accompaniment during moments of fear and disruption. From Andre Henry’s powerful training on disrupting injustice to the national network discussion on supporting immigrant families impacted by ICE operations, these sessions equipped us with tools to stand faithfully and bravely with our neighbors.
Throughout the week — in plenaries, hallways, prayer circles, meals, and late-night conversations — we built new relationships, exchanged local models, and gathered practical, actionable wisdom. We return home strengthened, encouraged, and better prepared to walk with our communities in love, justice, and the hope of Christ.

Compton's Human Trafficking Task Force - is Back!
Compton Unites Against Human Trafficking
The S.A.L.T. is honored to now serve on both the Compton Human Trafficking Task Force and its Steering Committee, standing alongside dedicated community partners to confront one of our city’s most urgent crises.
Under the leadership of Deatra Handy, Program Director of Restoration Diversion Services, this revitalized task force is focused on restoring hope and freedom to those caught in the grip of exploitation. Once disbanded during the pandemic, it now returns stronger—uniting law enforcement, nonprofits, colleges, and churches to bring healing, protection, and opportunity to survivors.
Compton’s corridors, long marked by hardship, are now being reclaimed as corridors of compassion. Through trauma-informed collaboration, crisis response, and faith-based engagement, we join hands to ensure that no soul is forgotten and no child is lost to the streets again.
