Be a Soldier!
(Mid-week message for House Church and individual use: preached 2/7 – 2/13/2021)
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
(Proverbs 11:30)
Introduction
Ephesians 6:10-20 (KJV):
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (Ephesians 6:10-20)
“No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (2 Timothy 2:4)
I. Bear the fruit of the righteous!
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. (Proverbs 11:30)
- And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.” (Mark 11:13)
II. Be a tree of life!
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. (Proverbs 11:30)
- “And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.” (Mark 11:14)
III. Be a soul who wins other souls!
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. (Proverbs 11:30)
- “One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the Lord your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.” (Joshua 23:10)
- “And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17)
Conclusion: Be a wise man or woman! Be a soldier! Be a king!
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. (Proverbs 11:30)
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
(Luke 14:31-35)
