“Death Is Swallowed”

'Death Is Swallowed"

Sunday message for House Church and individual use: preached 11/7 – 11/13/2021)

“Victory.”

(1 Corinthians 15:54)

Introduction: Friend, you have been deceived.

You are not the great grand-child of a monkey who owes a great allegiance to science for helping you to live maybe up to a 100 years, and then be nothing but dead rotting food for rats and worms. No! Ridiculous! Our ancestors (who even after the Fall could live up to 1000 years) were oroginally created to live gloriously forever!

“Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-54)

What is that victory? Victory over what?

  • “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
  • “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)
  • “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

Il. The Three Stages of Defeat

     A. Death

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)

      B. Condemnation

“The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.” (1 Corinthians 15:56)

  • For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

     C. Damnation

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)

II. The Three Stages of Victory

     A. Life

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)

     B. Liberty

“The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.” (1 Corinthians 15:56)

  • “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

     C. Salvation

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)

Conclusion: Victory!

He offered it to Jesus. Jesus threw it all away… for victory!

Reference only: “And he said to him, ‘All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.’ Then Jesus said to him, ‘Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‘‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’ Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.” (Matthew 4:9-11)

“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)
