How to Improve Your Sight… of the Lord!

How to Improve Your Sight... of the Lord!

(Mid-week message for House Church and individual use: preached 7/25 – 7/31/2021)

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”

(Hebrews 12:14)

Introduction: You were blind.

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” (Hebrews 12:14)

  • “He answered and said, ‘Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” (John 9:25)
  • “And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.” (Mark 8:23-25)
  • “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

I. Peace improves the vision.

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”  (Hebrews 12:14)

  • “For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.” (Hosea 8:7)
  • “My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger, thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.” (Proverbs 6:1-5)
  • Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5)
  • “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” (Ephesians 5:21)

II. Holiness completes the vision.

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”  (Hebrews 12:14)

  • “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate”, saith the Lord, “and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:17-18)
  • “Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.” (Ephesians 5:10-12)
  • “The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.” (2 Timothy 4:13)
  • “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” (Ephesians 5:18-20)
  • “As for me, I will call upon God; and the Lord shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.” (Psalm 55:16-17)

III. Jesus is the vision.

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:”  (Hebrews 12:14)

  • “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines.” (Hebrews 13:8-9)
  • Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

Conclusion: How to lose your sight again.

“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.” (Hebrews 12:15-16)

“For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.” (Hosea 8:7)

“Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened.” (1 Corinthians 5:6-7)
