It’s Your Turn: the Lord Will See You Now!
(Sunday message for House Church and individual use: preached 06/13 – 06/20/2021)
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
(Hebrews 9:27-28)
Introduction
Imagine that you have committed a crime. You have been caught. Now, you sit outside the courtroom. Now, you sit with the other criminals who likewise are waiting to be tried. Now it is your turn. Now your name is called.
Have you ever been that defendant? You will be. Have you ever waited for your name to be called? You will. You will! You will!!
Your name will be called. Your turn will finally come. You will be examined. You will be judged!
I. You have an appointment.
“And as it is appointed…” (Hebrews 9:27a)
II. You are going to die.
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die…” (Hebrews 9:27ab)
III. You will be judged.
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)
Conclusion: Two Questions
1) Why was Jesus sacrificed to pay for your sins?
2) How can you be without sin at the Judgement?
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” (Hebrews 9:27-28)
- Why was Jesus sacrificed to pay for your sins?
- Because you have an appointment, AND
- Because you’re going to die, AND
- Because you’re going to be judged, AND
- Because God so loved you (John 3:16).
- “[Therefore] Christ was once offered to bear [YOUR] sins.” (Hebrews 9:28a)
- How can you be without sin at the Judgement… like “them?”
“And unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” (Hebrews 9:28b)
