Pandemic!

(Sunday message for your House Church and individual use: preached 10/18 – 10/24/2020)

According to www.cdc.gov,

“An outbreak is called an epidemic when there is a sudden increase in cases. As COVID-19 began spreading in Wuhan, China, it became an epidemic. Because the disease then spread across several countries and affected a large number of people, it was classified as a pandemic.” (“Identifying the Source of the Outbreak.” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 1 July 2020, www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/about-epidemiology/identifying-source-outbreak.html#:~:text=An%20outbreak%20is%20called%20an,classified%20as%20a%20pandemic.)

According to a large four inch thick volume of Webster’s New Twentieth Century Dictionary, which is unabridged and which was published over 40 years ago, the word pandemic means,

“Of all the people; prevalent over a whole area, country, etc.; universal; general; specifically epidemic over a large region: said of a disease.” (“Pandemic.” Webster’s New Twentieth Century Dictionary of the English Language: Unabridged – Based Upon the Broad Foundations Laid Down by Noah Webster, by Noah Webster and Jean L. Judgement has just begun!

It is written that

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17)

As a correlation to this, the Bible also that

“There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:18)

And so it is that,

“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.” (Isaiah 57:20)

“The earth is also polluted by its inhabitants, for they transgressed laws, violated statutes, broke the everlasting covenant. Therefore, a curse devours the earth, and those who live in it are held guilty. Therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.”

I. Pandemic: “The earth is polluted by its inhabitants!”

“The earth is also polluted by its inhabitants, for they transgressed laws, violated statutes, broke the everlasting covenant.” (Isaiah 24:5, NASB)

II. Pandemic: “A curse devours the earth!”

“Therefore, a curse devours the earth, and those who live in it are held guilty.” (Isaiah 24:6a, NASB)

III. Pandemic: “The inhabitants of the earth are burned!”

“Therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.” (Isaiah 24:6b, NASB)

Conclusion

But why? Why does God allow this? What does he expect of us? What does he expect… of you?

The pandemic in Eden – pointed to salvation in Jesus only?

“And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:14-15)

The pandemic in Egypt – pointed to salvation in Jesus only?

“And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord.” (Exodus 14:10)

“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.” (Exodus 14:13)

“And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.” (Exodus 14:22)

The pandemic in Israel – pointed to salvation in Jesus only?

“And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.” (Numbers 21:6)

“And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.” (Numbers 21:8)

The pandemic today – points to salvation in Jesus only?

“Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” (Luke 21:26)

“And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” (Luke 21:27)

“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:28)
