The Greatest Horror Story Ever Told

The Greatest Horror Story Ever Told

(Sunday message for House Church and individual use: preached 10/24 – 10/30/2021)

“And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”

(Luke 10:18)

Introduction: The Greatest Horror story that’s ever been told is unusual.

1) We will need a Camera Crew to film the entire story.

2) We will need “The 5 Elements of Horror?

    • “Characters. First off, you need to write characters worth caring about.
    • “Fear of the unknown. Fear of the unknown is a common psychological issue.
    • “Emotions. You can’t have a horror story without tapping into different emotions.
    • “Storyline.
    • “Killer ending.”

3) We will need an audience to watch the entire movie.

I. The Greatest Character in a Horror Story

  • The greatest character… is YOU!

“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)

Your turn! Your turn! Your turn finally comes. It’s your turn! It’s your turn!

II. The Greatest Fear of the Unknown in a Horror Story

  • The greatest fear of the unknown… occurs right after you die!

“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)

III. The Greatest Emotions Tapped into in a Horror Story

  • The greatest emotions… begin to be experienced right after you die!

“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)

IV. The Greatest Story Line in a Horror Story

  • The greatest part of the story of your life… takes place after you die!

“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)

V. The Greatest Killer Ending in a Horror Story

  • The Greatest Killer Ending of “Death and Hell”

“And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.” (Revelation 20:13)

  • The Greatest Killer Ending of “the Lake of Fire”

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14)

  • The Greatest Killer Ending of “the Second Death”

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

Conclusion: “How shall [you] escape?”  Well… Can you, will you, how do you hear… Him?

  • Do you refuse to hear?

“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;” (Hebrews 2:3)

  • Are you unable to hear?

“But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.” (Mark 3:29)

  • Will what you have heard be stolen from you?

“Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.” (Luke 8:12)

“Jesus answered and said, ‘This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” This he said, signifying what death he should die.” (John 12:30-33)

Do you refuse to hear? Are you unable to hear? Will what you have heard be stolen from you… for now?

If not, then…

  • God has opened your ears.

“Jesus answered and said, ‘This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.” (John 12:30)

  • God has withheld the Devil from his usual hold on you.

“Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” (John 12:31)

  • God… Jesus… through the Holy Spirit is drawing you to himself.

“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” (John 12:32)

  • What Jesus did in suffering the greatest horror story, in this world, for you – may be yours! Now! Believe on Jesus! Believe on Jesus! Believe on Jesus!

“This he said, signifying what death he should die.” (John 12:33)

He bore it all for you. For you! For you!

He is lifted up! Look up! Look at Him! Believe on Jesus! Believe on Jesus and be saved from your sin… Now!

Five Minutes After I Die (Poem)

Loved ones will weep o’er my silent face,

Dear ones will clasp me in sad embrace,

Shadows and darkness will fill the place,

Five minutes after I die.

Faces that sorrow I will not see,

Voices that murmur will not reach me,

But where, O where will my spirit be,

Five minutes after I die.

Quickly the years of my life have flown,

Gathering treasures I thought my own,

There I must reap from the seed I have sown,

Five minutes after I die.

Naught to repair the good I lack,

Fixed to the goal of my chosen track,

No room to repent; no turning back,

Five minutes after I die.

Now I can stifle convictions stirred,

Now I can silence the Voice oft heard,

Then the fulfilment of God’s sure Word,

Five minutes after I die.

Mated for aye with my chosen throng,

Long is eternity, O so long,

Then woe is me if my soul be wrong,

Five minutes after I die.

O, what a fool — hard the word, but true

Passing the Saviour with death in view,

Doing a deed I can ne’er undo,

Five minutes after I die.

If I am flinging a fortune away,

If I am wasting Salvation’s day,

“Just is my sentence” my soul shall say,

Five minutes after I die.

God help you choose! Your eternal state,

Depends on your choice, you dare not wait,

You must choose now, it will be too late,

Five minutes after I die.
