The Power of Simple Salt
Sunday message for House Church and individual use: preached 6/27 – 7/3/2021)
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”
(Matthew 5:13)
Introduction: Away with confusion! Away with lies! Away with complexities from Hell!
- Eve complicated it and brought sin into the world!
- Cain complicated it and brought murder into the world!
- The sons of Seth complicated it and had to almost all be drowned!
- Abraham complicated it and fathered the greatest enemy of his own children!
- His children complicated it, were cursed and died in the wilderness!
- Moses complicated it and was locked out of the Promise Land!
- Israel complicated it and were beaten, bloodied and enslaved!
- Enslaved Israel complicated it, crucified their Savior and to this very day refuse to receive the simplicity of his Light; of Himself; of Jesus!
Away with all this! Away with confusion! Away with lies! Away with complexities from Hell! Complexities! Complexities! Complexities from Hell!
“For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.” (Matthew 23:4)
Away with confusion! Away with lies! Lies! Lies! Away with lies!
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (John 8:44)
Away with confusion! Away with confusion! Away with confusion!
“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” (1 Corinthians 14:33)
I. A Simple Guide: God’s Word
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matthew 5:13)
- “For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.” (Acts 13:47)
I say to you that God’s word must be made available, free and unencumbered by the complexities of man. Luther said, “A simple layman armed with Scripture is to be believed above a pope or a cardinal without it.”
II. A Simple Resource: God’s Answers
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matthew 5:13)
- “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
III. A Simple Plan: God’s Kingdom
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” (Matthew 5:13)
- “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…” (Matthew 28:19)
- “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel…” (Mark 16:15)
- “Repentance and remission of sins should be preached…” (Luke 24:47)
- Feed my lambs … Feed my sheep … Feed my sheep.” (John 21:15-17)
- “Ye shall be witnesses unto me…” (Acts 1:8)
Conclusion: A Simple Role Model: God’s Son!
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14)
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
“Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” (John 2:5)
