We Know Exactly What Comes Next

(Sunday message for House Church and individual use: preached 5/2 – 5/8/2021)

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

(Proverbs 29:18)

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

(1 Corinthians 14:33)

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

(Genesis 3:1)

Introduction

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

  • “Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.” (Proverbs 29:17)
  • “A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.” (Proverbs 29:19)

I. The man that couldn’t see!

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

  • They had a vision.

“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” (Genesis 2:25)

  • They lost the vision.

“And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;” (Genesis 3:17)

“God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar.” (Romans 3:4a)

  • God found another man to keep the law.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Corinithians 15:22)

  • That man is happy!

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, ‘All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matthew 28:18)

II. The world that couldn’t see!

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

  • That world had a vision (as in every generation).

“And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.” (Genesis 4:6-7)

“And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.” (Genesis 5:27)

“But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.” (Genesis 2:6)

  • They lost the vision.

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5)

“They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Romans 3:12)

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)

  • God will make another world where they will keep the law.

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” (Genesis 6:8)

“Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.” (Genesis 6:22)

“And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him.” (Genesis 7:5)

“For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:11-12)

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” (John 12:48)

  • They will be happy in that world!

“And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in.” (Genesis 3:16)

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:13)

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” (Revelation 21:1)

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

III. The nation that couldn’t see!

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

  • They had a vision.

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2)

“And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.” (1 Kings 3:3)

  • They lost the vision.

“In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 17:6 and 21:25)

“For through the anger of the Lord it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence.” (2 Kings 23:20a)

  • God has made another nation to keep the law.

The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17)

“Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.” (Deuteronomy 9:14)

“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17)

  • We are happy in that nation!

Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21)

“So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.” (Luke 21:31)

“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 14:17)

“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.” (1 Corinthians 4:20)

“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 11:15)

Conclusion: Can you see?

2 Thessalonians 1:7-12

[Read as if preached, and give the scripture address, afterwards.]

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

(2 Thessalonians 1:7-12)
