Introduction
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
(Mark 14:32-34)
I. Sin drove us out of a perfect garden!
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:4)
- “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:17)
II. Sin drove us out of a perfect Earth!!
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:4)
- “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” (Genesis 6:5-6)
III. Sin drove us out of a perfect nation!!!
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:4)
- “And the Lord said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:” (Exodus 32:7)
- “32:7 your people. In alerting Moses to the trouble in the camp, God designated Israel as Moses’ people, a change of possessive pronoun Moses could not have missed. Beforehand God had acknowledged them as “my people.” In pleading with God for Israel and in responding to God’s offer to make of him a great nation (v.10), Moses maintained what he knew to be true, given the exodus and the divine promises to the patriarchs (vv. 12-13), and designated them correctly as “your people” (v.11).” (MacArthur, John. “Exodus 32.” The MacArthur Study Bible, Personal Sized, English Standard Version (ESV), Crossway, 2010, p. 140.)
Conclusion: Saved! Saved!! Saved!!!

- “Made him to be sin for us!”
- “Who knew no sin!”
- “That we might be made the righteousness of God in him!”
- “That we might!”
